San
Diego Regional Energy Office (SDREO) is an independent, public-benefit,
non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that provides objective information, research,
analysis and long-term planning on energy issues for the San Diego region. SDREO
also serves as a critical link between consumers and government and is currently
managing over $30 million in public funds through a variety of rebate, incentive
and education programs.

Results/achievements/concepts:
Geltz Communications has
designed and delivered several successful customer acquisition programs based on
the communication concepts of the diffusion of innovations theory. This theory
holds that few potential customers make the decision to adopt a new behavior or
technology based solely on logical arguments from a single, objective source
(the traditional method used for many EE/DR programs). Instead, customers often
need input (objective and subjective) from a variety of sources (impersonal and
interpersonal) throughout their decision-making process. Then, once they have
adopted the new behavior or technology, the customers themselves become
effective program marketers.
